2 Weeks

Break free with Johnny Abegg as he takes ‘Two Weeks’ off from his monotonous world of wavering ideals and a growing unhappiness, to experience the remote wilderness of Tasmania on his own.

The decision takes Johnny on an inward journey, to a place of reflection, accountability and deep self inquiry; facing a hidden ‘dark side’ alone, within the unforgiving landscape. Through the internal battle of opposites, amplified by the humbling surrounds; Abegg is stripped back to the basic creature that he is, to find a moment of clarity amidst the endless questions…

So is there an answer? A right way to live? Find out for yourself. Just surrender

Sneak Peek of Peeps: 03

19 year old Harry Triglone recently relocated to Byron from Coffs Harbour to study film at SAE institute, he is a competent film maker looking to expand his portfolio and collaborate with creative artists and individuals. keep a look out for some of his content which will begin to frequent this page in the coming weeks, months and years.

This short was shot over the course of an hour at the pass. "Inspiration for the edit came from the work of Nathan Oldfield and the Critical Slide Society who have both been pumping out some really good content" Harry said. He was surprised with how much fun he had shooting then cutting this piece together. "I had never shot longboarding before and thought it would be really boring and repetitive", he said. "Brett surfs really well and I can't wait to work with him more in the future." We look forward to the results! -JH

Dan Sultan Delivers.

Dan sultan is the kind of guy both you and your mum can go ga-ga over. His lyrics are sweet, his voice is rough and the pathway he is stomping seems dusty.

Between his true blue bonds singlet and distinct accent, there is a definitely an Australian taste in his aura.

Having seen him over ten times before, i know what I'm in-store for... a dynamic soul rocking show full of haunting acoustic ballads and a little bit of Elvis hip swiveling grooves... and yep, he delivers!

He is on tour with his 7 piece outfit - including guitar & song writing guru Scott Wilson - to promote the new album, 'Get out while you can.'

The crowd digs it - young and old and i watch as a drunken teen dances traditionally with an older lady.. two generations collide. -BR

Do you hava dollar, do you havva dollar?

When you wake up singing the songs to a band you heard the night before, you know its been a memorable experience.

Little lisa mitchell, quaint and polite, quiet and beautiful. The 20 year old, english born/australian bread singer has bursted into the Australian music scene after releasing her debut album, Wonder in 2009. Her wonderfully evocative lyrics and playful melodies float around in your head... light and airy, picturesque and pretty.

With a definite appeal to a female audience, the crowd was gentle and happy to sit on the floor until Lisa entered the stage. During the song "Coin Laundry" which Lisa sings, "do you hava dollar, do you havva dollar?" the crowd threw dollar coins up onto the stage... how cute!!! She was backed by a 7 piece band all boasting individual styles and attitudes.

Her vintage outfit, introverted personality and vocal style shouts Julia Stone! and she could pass for her younger sister. The perfect music to listen to while lying in a field of daisies on a warm summer day. -BR

Touring with Lucille

Having grown up down the coast of Victoria in Apollo Bay, the Vasco Era boys have an air of familiarity, of backyard jams and local attitude.

They're well known for letting loose on stage and sending a crowd into a frenzy. Brothers, Ted & Sid O'Neil were still in their teens when they found drummer, Michael Fitzgerald and felt an instant musical and live chemistry. They spurred exciting local performances that were soon packed houses, leaving the crowd feeling the dynamic intensity of their live shows.

From these youthful beginnings, the band has gone on to much bigger things culminating in large outdoor performances at The Falls Festival, Southbound, East and West Coast Blues & Roots Festivals, Apollo Bay Music Festival and The Great Escape. In addition to the ever growing list of festivals, The Vasco Era have toured extensively throughout Australia headlining and won fans further afield with shows in LA, New York and London. the band has supported The Black Keys, The Grates, Gomez, The Violent Femmes, You Am I and Wolfmother.

The boys were here to promote their new Album, 'Lucille.' It has been a long time since their first album, 'oh i do like to live beside the seaside' which was their debut album and kickstarted their career beyond the small coastal town they started in.
Having seen their shows in Melbourne and at festivals i was expected a much larger crowd, but it was an intimate show wiith room to move and definitely space to jump. Everyone there seemed to sing along to the words, shake their hair around and sing arm in arm to the their favourites. One enthusiastic lady even escaped the bouncer to get up onstage and take over Sid's microphone to wail the chorus with the crowd cheering on. The boys loved the crowd interaction, drinking beers between songs and getting involved in banter with drunken harmless guys in wife beaters. - BR

Five times over and out

The day went a bit like this: Wake up, Blues skies, drive in, park in mud, enter, backstage, observe, meet important people, dance, get drunk, take photos, dance, work, hari Krishna, black market drink tokens, late for shoot, too drunk, work, dance, leave.

Blues & Roots 2010 was a Killer! It's one of those festivals you can tick off all the bands you're sure you'll never see. There new festival site at Tyagarah looks like it's from a fairytale, and there 2010 staff made it a really pleasant working experience. -jh

From the Vault 02: An ode to memories...

I often wonder what happened to my memory. Have all those years of synthetic love and endless parties robbed me of any first hand recollection of my life? Are my only memories reflections of the dodgy black and white disposables or the pixelated juxtapositions poised on facebook pages; heightened moments often fabricated for the pleasure of the camera. Even besides those deborturous evenings my memories of growing up seemed like spinifex in the desert. But recently I rejoiced, for they are still there, buried discretely in the layers of distractive dialogue. Solitude has allowed them to rise again, vivid and wild, full of colour and injected with laughter. Random and without warning they grace my days in this foreign land, I'm so happy for what has been and for the mystery of what is to come.

And for all those times that seem forgotten, hail to the photograph.

One for the epileptics?

Yacht Club smoked out the Northern on there Australian tour on Friday Night. They put on there usual fast paced set full of party anthems, breakbeat and top of the charts mash-ups. The place was full of a crazy partying peeps and i think everyone left with a smile from ear to ear. Not to mention a head ache from the monotonous strobe light which was seemingly any ones to operate?

Support acts were Howl and DZ. Such pleasent young men! -JH

:: The strobe set the light meter into an absolute frenzy, Fortunately there was a photogenic crowd.

Ian Bought a Yashica T4 !!

And then he took it to the beach and took it partying. We even took it body surfing..

Yashica started in Japan in the earlier part of the century with the initial investment of $566. They started making mechanical parts for watches. Within 4 years of precise mechanical engineering they introduced there first camera, the Yashimaflex. Sweet Lord, we would like one of those.

In 1992 the Yashica T4 multi-coated Carl Zeiss lens, fixed at 35mm hit the market at the budget price of 130 bucks. But it soon proved anything but 'Low End' ; "It was one of those rare moments in capitalist history when a business venture benefited the consumer almost as much as it benefited company." -http://collectivecamera.com/

From the Vault 01: Polaroid Love!

Apparently Polaroid film is in limited production. Is this some kind of marketing ploy to make the almost 4 dollar a click price seem reasonable? Am i going to profit when i sell my multi-packs down the line to the uneducated online bidder. I doubt it... It expires, plus i wouldn't give the stuff away.

It's like gold to me! 1 click, 2 shakes, 3 minutes, 4 dollars spent - JH

Ian Azariah

A young Analogue Loving Canadian Fella started work at the shop the other month.. I asked him to write an introductory for himself for the Blog.. So it goes...

"Descibed by my friends as just a deranged hippy, I'm just that dude who show's up... Thinks "this place is F@#k'n Awesome.... i'm staying'. " And then as soon as any questions appear concerning plans or the future or issues of general trife I'm usually just' like "TAH SON!" ..... problem solved.... among other things such as; good lamps and cereal i'm a boy of simple taste who enjoys things like tearing up rope swings, two-steppin', and gettin' straight up wibbley wobbly. That being said at the best of times my memory tends to have the worst of times, and i can't just have the good times i need to remember them, even if I'm written off. So turns out there's this thing called a camera, and if you take a pinch of emulsion, a twist of light, and a bit of thought you get mo memory pie! and there i find myself; living a life worth its weight in shiny ass diamonds and making sure at the end of the day i can prove it. Crush It."

So the guy's a nutter. But has gold personality and shoots enough film to keep Kodak in Business. Check more of his talent here. -jh

Beach Hotel Up The Ante with Lyrics Born!!

“If I don’t lose my voice and my hearing, I’m not doing my job,” LB tells us. Before the show he had sat quietly in the fenced off green room tweeting about DJ Goodie spinning Chali 2na. Onstage, LB barely pauses for breath. His backing vocalist, Joyo Velarde, belts out her tunes while busting non-stop funky-ass dance moves. Lyrics Born and his live band don’t just perform, they engage the crowd. Both the keys and bass player make eye contact with me and grin... (Read More)
